About this course

Our Doctor of Physiotherapy is a three-year course which will provide you with clinical education and research training across core areas of physiotherapy practice.

Who is it for?

Our course is designed for students who wish to become physiotherapy professionals working in variety of settings, including clinical and academic settings. You will gain real-world, hands-on training through work-integrated learning within our extensive network of health partners.

What you’ll study

Our new three-year course incorporates significant clinical, research, and professional work-integrated learning opportunities, providing hands-on experience with real clients throughout the course.

The course emphasises a patient-centred and evidence-based approach to physiotherapy and healthcare, equipping you with the skills to practice in a variety of healthcare settings.

You will also undertake clinical placements at urban public and private clinics and rural health settings as they provide supervised patient care.

You will follow a prescribed course of study:

Year 1

One Week of Professional Immersion

With your final year electives, you can tailor the course to your specific interests in physiotherapy and health. Some of these may include subjects like Pharmacology of Pain Medicine, Diabetes Management, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Pain in Children and Pain in Older People.

Qualifications

To be eligible to apply you will need to fulfill the following criteria;

  •  A bachelor's degree, master's degree, or a PhD from an Australian institution or equivalent. The most recent degree should have been completed within the 10-year period before 1 January of the year in which the applicant intends to commence the Doctor of Physiotherapy.
  • Academic performance in an eligible degree - the standard requirement to be eligible to apply is a minimum average mark of 70 or equivalent. Rural applicants as well as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants must have a minimum average mark of 60 or equivalent.

For domestic applicants, the Indigenous Facilitated Entry Scheme and the Rural Applicants Facilitated Entry Scheme are available for eligible applicants. Please refer to the Doctor of Physiotherapy Special Admission Pathways Guide for definitions and information on facilitated entry schemes.

International qualifications

For qualifications awarded outside Australia, equivalencies and entry requirements are determined based on the country, institution, and qualification.
